I have just clambered all over a candidate for wellie nessie.

I can't post all the pictures to do her full justice yntil tomorrow.

There is currently a notice on her for claiming over 9000 of back berthing fees.

She has keels that are not cracking off and don't leak....
I know this as she is full of water half way up the bunks and flywheel of the bbukh engine.!

She has all her rigging and sails still in stack pack and on
Rroller reefing.
Headlining has been replaced with upvc t&g.

She will be putI up for auction on the 28th. Feb

Apologies for carp posted on broken phone

Anna Sira has been on the Hard at Port Dinorwic for at least 4 years........

She is still fully rigged with roller jib and stack pack main having protected the sail from UV.. Probably need to check the head board on the main as this will have had some exposure to UV.

IMAG1310.jpg

Keels look good and no sign of any water leaking out despite what is inside her!

Notice of intended auction 28th February.. To help recover the outstatnding berthing fees of over £9000. I am lead to believe that this and all the others being disposed of by the new owner of Port Dinorwic Marina will be auctioned via E Bay!!

Will e mail tomorrow Dylan

Enjoy!

She'd have to be very, very cheap and guaranteed no debts attached.

New engine? £4000 straight away. New rigging? £1000. Osmosis from the inside? Structurally sound? Flexi decks?

You could probably get one with a good survey needing no work for less than £9000.

Think long and hard!

I dont think they are serious about trying to get £9000 grand recovered. I would reckon they will settle for whatever anyone offers plus a new owner to start paying dues or clear the"project wreck off site.

In my experience this is the same procedure that sailing clubs go through to clear the wrecks.

New around here, are you?

The only thing which would seriously concern me is the condition of the main bulkhead which is (a) very structural and (b) plywood. I have read tales of nasty results from end grain penetration of water into Westerly bulkheads: I would want to have a bloody good go at it with a sharp pointy thing before bidding.

One thing which is a bit of a shame; if it really is a Bukh it must be a refit so newer than the boat, if not submerged it might have been sellable towards funds - I suppose there's always the chance it's recoverable.

legal chaps....

where would I stand regarding the ownership

I assume would be in the clear

wonder if the old owner has any bits and bobs floating around his garage

I have phoned the number

it asks me to text

I shall wait this one out in the hope that I find a better bet in the south or east solent before the end of feb

I will text the bloke and let you know what he says

As i understand it the owner has forfeited all rights. The owner, in essence, is the debt holder, its him you should be talking to. As others have said the debt is with the boat, the owner of the yard holds that debt, therefore holds the boat. If you buy off the original owner, the yard still owns the debt! No cash, no splash!

it sounds a bit messy to me

the condition of it is not a project killer

the location is far from ideal...

well found Stevie

I am giving a talk in the solent in the new year - I shall arrive early enough to tour some boat yards

Wasn't one of the Bukh design requirements that they had to run submerged up to just below the air intake?

Yep - been there, done that on a chartered Fulmar. Flywheel was chucking water everywhere, but it ran ok.

Watch out those bething fee debts don't come with the boat! Marine law says the debt attaches to the boat, not to it's owner.

If the yard wasn't offering the boat free of debt, they'd never shift the thing. Certainly check that the paperwork is done properly so you're in the clear, but that will be the intention. The £9000 is a red herring - last time Kemp's had a clearout there were worse wrecks than this one with higher debts on them. They don't expect to recover that sum, but I think the law which allows them to sell the boat requires it to be included in the notice.

If you mean the legal situation rather than the muck and algae, don't worry about it. You'd be buying it from the boatyard, who just want shot of a mouldering heap of GRP and to recoup whatever they can for it. Probably more straightforward to deal with than many private sellers. A few years ago a chap bought one of the wrecks at the back of our yard - not sure what it was, about 26 foot with a GRP hull and cold-moulded wooden deck. It was full of water like this Centaur, he paid a couple of hundred quid for it and was allowed a couple of weeks free storage to get it mobile and then a free lift-in to take it away. He was going to move it to a cheaper mooring somewhere in Portsmouth to do the full refit.
