I thought although PAL video the same . Audio was spaced differently.Need Multi standard set?

Just hold tight dear it will not be so rough when we get round the corner, trust me.

I go with oldgit on this one. I've got some Engineers working in Holland at the moment and they took a TV with them and it doesn't work right. They can sort of get a picture, but not good and no sound at all. So I guess if you buy a Dutch TV you'll have the same problem. Or vice versa.

Re: Three Types.

No it won,t.they use SECAM.
3 x types
PAL
SECAM(france)
NTSC(usa)

Well thanks everybody for your input, once again it looks as if the UK consumer has to pay more!!

end of that bright idea!!!

to Liam s

what is a london phone box?, as up here even the AA ones have gone, and the previous users meet in the temperance hall.

boat one thanks for the definative answer, out of interest does that mean a direct din plug connection with a video camera etc would not work either, or is that past the decoding bit & therefore a world standard?

Nip to the Auchan at your nearest fav french port.Buy multi standard set at about 50% cost here in Uk.Locals all watch BBC/dutch/belgian tv etc so shops all stock cheapo sets.Multi standard virtually unheard of over here except in tottenham court road.

Go to satellite: buy an 12 month plus old (i.e. out of contract) Sky digibox (advertised in local rags by people who don't want Sky anymore) demand "free view card" from Sky ( they don't ike it but they have to give you one by law) and you will pick up a limited but totally adequate selection of channels including BBC 1, BBC 2, ITV, Ch. 4, Ch 5, Sky News, CNN etc., anywhere, using a British set.

A composite video feed from a co-ax cable (eg aerial input) carries both audio and video as a combined signal with the audio piggybacked on the video. The figures I quoted in my previous post vis a vis Pal I +6 and Pal B/G +5.5 are the differences in the carrier frequencies at the composite stage so they need to be treated slightly differently to seperate the audio from the video signal.
If you have a device such as a video camera which outputs seperate video and audio signals with phono or din type connectors and you connect these directly to video and audio inputs on a tv or monitor there should be no problem. You should also be able to connect the audio output to the 'line-in' connector on a seperate audio amplifier if you wish.

A friend organised my digibox and dish: £100.00 for the lot. Dish is installed on the truncated telescopic alloy pole that was formerly used for the terrestrial aerial. Using the free view caqrd there is no subscription to pay. I gather you can buy a used digibox and dish for about £100.00 through the local papers, and then all you need is the phone number to ring to get your free view card. I'd tell you but have mislaid it temporarily.

The other way might be to take out a contract for a year and get the digibox and dish free. I think that for the first year the digibox is supposed to be plugged into a phone line, but once the contract is up there seems to be nothing to stop you re-installing the box and dish on your boat.

I see how you can fix the dish onto the boat, but wouldn't you lose the signal with every bob, swivel, lurch, pitch and heel? Don't the domes mean you will not have to redirect the dish every time you move? I really don't know, it seems to me that perhaps you need a cheap omnidirectional (?) dish of some sort.....
