Dutch inland waters info here

Hi Old Harry,

Many thanks for posting that link here. We had hoped tfor a Dutch cruise this summer, but I'm not so sure that we in the UK will get R down to a level that European neighbours will be happy to welcome Brits in time for that. Perhaps next year.

Hi Roger,

I still owe you several pints for the loan of your library of Nederlanf waterways literature, borrowed for our last cruise over there in 2016. Beween Moody Owners and this group, we must get together some time (when it's allowed for us old folk) so I can repay your generosity.

Peter

The Netherlands is open to EU Schengen countries and the UK from 15th June - Q&A's Holidays to the Netherlands and coronavirus measures

They’re being far more reasonable about tourism, no 14 day quarantine there, only back here for when we return home.

On my last visit to Nederlands I discovered the Marrekrite organisation. In case anyone is not familiar with it, it operates over much of Friesland and provides many alongside berths and some buoys, and a few pump outs. These are usually in fairly remote areas and have limited facilities, usually just a rubbish skip. They are free to use, you just buy a pennant [wimpel] for about 15 /25 Euros from a chandlery. For a while I didn't understand that and nobody said anything. They also maintain cycle ways and footpaths.
If you value peace and quiet, it's a great system, almost as if they want to encourage visitors, unlike much of the UK.

But to my mind, though I am native here
And to the manner born, it is a custom
More honour'd in the breach than the observance

New rules requiring all people arriving in the UK to self-isolate for 14 days have come into effect.

Those arriving by plane, ferry or train - including UK nationals - must give an address where they will self-isolate. Rule breakers will be fined.

Home Secretary Priti Patel has said the laws were designed "to prevent a second wave" of coronavirus.

But the boss of Ryanair has said the rules are a "political stunt" and are not a quarantine.

Michael O'Leary told the BBC: "You could be in Sainsbury's, you could be on the beach, you could be on the golf course in the unlikely event the Home Office calls you - all they will have is a mobile number."

He claimed even the Home Office acknowledged the rules were unenforceable.

Some industries have warned they will be severely impacted by the rules, and Mr O'Leary warned of devastation.

The guidance that the Home Office has issued to border force officers raises questions about the feasibility of the government’s quarantine rules.

ITV News has seen a document that was sent to more than 9,000 customs officials late on Friday night.

It states that officers “should encourage completion” of the public health passenger locator forms but should “not enforce” it.

The guidance makes it clear that not everyone passing through customs will have their forms inspected.

At the border, officers should “spot check a certain percentage of arriving passengers which will be agreed on a regional or port basis with National Operations Headquarters”.

There are 42 categories of people who are exempt from the obligation to self-isolate for 14 days on arrival in the UK, but only diplomats are exempt from completing an online declaration form.

Border officers are advised to use their discretion when checking forms: “A fisherman will not have information such as a booking reference or a seat number; a lorry driver may sleep in their cab and thus not have an address in the UK.”

Netherlands updated their restrictions and the UK and Sweden are no longer welcome, Coronavirus and tourism in the Netherlands

I’m going to blame this on  Brexit

Sad news. Spent a happy afternoon yesterday working out a passage plan into an official port of entry (Ijmuiden for ease of access, if not scenic attraction) and on to the Frisian islands. Tides, from the Medway, seemed to work pretty well for an arrival just as the Waddenzee ports opened on 1st July.

France is due to review its nautical lockdown restrictions this coming Monday. Suspect that our 14 day quarantine declaration, and removal of the proposed exemption for travelers from France, is not going to help our cause there either.

Think I tempted fate by nipping out and buying some Euros yesterday morning!

Oudeschild on Texel used to be an "entry port"many years ago, no idea about now

Certainly went direct to Oudeschild last year - a beautiful spot. Though getting the tide right for the final leg up the Schulpengat, after a 24-28 hour crossing, is a bit of a lottery. Believe Den Helder (which also presents the Schulpengat challenge) and Ijmuiden are the nearest official entry ports. Scheveningen is too. Rather enjoy it in there, but deep rafting seems to be the order of the day - which presents its own challenges in these socially distanced times. All a bit academic for a while though.....
