Finally got around to writing up the ships blog from our summer outing - for anyone interested in or considering visiting the Delta area of S Holland, the log is on our website (link below) under 'Holland Aug 05'.

It wasn't all like the above bit, fortunately! Kids thouroughly enjoyed it & the area is highly recommended for relaxed cruising & good facilities.

Nice site, I have bookmarked to have a proper read later. Wish you had added links from the Holland log to the photo's would have stopped me flipping back and forth. Just a thought, no offence meant!

I loved the fact everyone belted their head before you got around to adding curves to that beam, typical skipper /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sounds like a normal fishing trip to me. Did you catch anything??

we had heavy weather last year ( 42 kts s/w & not forecast ) going to Stellendam as we were very likely to kill ourselves entering the shallow breaking swell in the chanels, we opted for the Hoek van Holland. the "Maas Entrance" staff were fantastic & talked us in after dark finding us a berth in the Pilot Stn complete with 2 staff to assist in mooring-up due to the weather.

these waters are very dangerous with heavy breaking swells in on shore winds especially after dark.

True - but there's a big difference between 42 & 20-odd kts wind. Once inside the banks (we didn't go over them of course) the seas were relatively calm. Moderate visibility & excellent lit buoyage meant that the approach was straightforward. Anything else & I'd have diverted elsewhere myself.
