Dutch canal closure

Whilst travelling south down the standing mast route a couple of weeks ago we were shocked to find the Krimpen aan de Ijssel storm flood barrier closed to yachts until 24 Oct. We had no alternative but to turn round & take the outside route from Ijmuiden. Not funny in the weather we have been having. There are no warnings posted & we arrived the first morning it was shut. I understand some others have been closed as well.
Moral -- If you are bringing the boat home via the cannals then check with canal authority first.

Funny (well, not really funny but...), but the Dutch Governmental site states that the maintenance of the "Stormvloedkering" (Barrier part) at Krinpen starts from the 1st of November. During this period the Algrabrug will be in operation. It means the lock should be available.... you're sure you weren't that at a certain time on a Sunday? Mind you, to wait there for a while is a big bore. Although big close by to Rotterdam and Capelle, not really a good chance to enter the shore.

It is a waste of time and it annoys the pig.

Work on the barrier was already under way when we went north in August.
I arrived on a Monday & had long chat with operator who seemed pissed off with yachts wanting to get through.
Sorry cannot understand your last sentance. I had thought of going outside from Ijmuiden & back in at Rotterdam but a friend who was with me in a motorboat & had to leave me telephoned to say some other bridges shut also. Although I cannot remember what ones

Staande Mast route bridges: a pain in the a***

The other bridge closed was the Haringvliet Bridge. This will be closed up to october 15. Worst of all is the lack of efficient warnings, not even in the Dutch sailing magazines. There is a State Journal, that obviously nobody reads because it publicates new law texts etc...in which the bridge closures must be published. Great help....

Last year the bridge at Alblasserdam, also vital in the StaandeMast Route, was suddeny closed because it needed repairs. So yes, you must check if you make yourself dependent of this route, best bet is the Dutch Touring Club ANWB. I have checked the dedicated site here but there seems to be no mention of any closure. This site is in Dutch only, and is maintained by a private person. I shall offer him to help him make an English version, as I think this could be very usefull.

If you can lower the mast, there are a lot of very scenic alternatives, but for many boats this will not be an option.

Re: Staande Mast route bridges: a pain in the a***

It would not be so bad if the authorities could circulate a notice to all the marinas along the route so we could have a chance to pick the info as we go along. Most harbour masters in Holland are extremely helpful( Probably the most helpful country of the lot ) & would certainly tell a visitor of closures in advance. Would not help with planning hols etc but could be useful En-route. It would have saved us a lot of stress & time. Not to mention the cost of airfares to Holland for the crew needed to sail the boat back home via the outside route.
Most unlike the Dutch to cock that up !!

I simply think it's a scandal you have not been warned in Amsterdam whilst paying the transit dues. Obviously, the local authorities in different locations do not speak to one another.

cheers
