A rather bizarre experience at Cookham last weekend when I noticed one of those rather nice hessian type recycled bags poking out of the top of one of the waste bins.

Closer examination revealed that it had a logo printed on it for a crematorium and contained a plastic urn - I declined to check whether it was empty......... :(

A Departed Boater wishing to take revenge on deep draughted boats, by reducing the depth on the moorings??

Think about it.

Perhaps it was a former resident of the Cookham Riverside Old Folks home!

I done some work in there recently what a great place to end your days!

I always wondered what they did with ashes.

I used to think they added a few into the bottom of every bag of Dry roasted peanuts...

A lot of people spread ashes in the Thames.......to the extent that the EA have a policy on how and what to put in the River.

This story reminds me a bit of the coconuts which one finds in the Grand Union Canal around Southall. apparently the canal is used in burial proceedings, as a River Ganges substitute. I've heard that a part of the Thames down near Kew is officially designated as a burial area on account of the prohibitive costs of jet travel to India.

Going back to the Grand Union Canal it appears that the waterway is also used as a landfill substitute because for some unknown reason the carrier bag which was used to transport the coconut is also deposited in the canal.

I found an urn once near Reading, bobbing around in the river. I wondered what it was and found it still had ashes in it. Seems a bit sad just throwing the whole thing in and not bothering to spread the ashes around, or let the wind take them, or something.
