Ah I see, 1 week boozing and partying in Dusseldorf and then 3 weeks skiing. How the other half lives, eh?

Normality and The Lounge? An oxymoron surely?

Morning all - just booked a Saturday overnighter to go to to DUS for the boatshow (expedia has some great deals..)

First time there - anything of note specifically to look out for at the show? i.e. location of Guinness bar etc?

Cheers

Yep - the show was big.
But there weren't as many big motorboats as you would find at (say) SIBS

We loved the Princess 82 and the Feretti engine room was "to die for"
The Azimut 80 was interesting as well - the fore deck teak covered all the anchor bits - a really safe idea.

We were there the weekend before and stayed at the Airport Hotel.

Did you guys use taxis to get around?

Us Princess owners had a very special mode of transport from the show to our hotel!!!

For H and me, it was cabs and trams.

However, the most interesting form of transport we saw this weekend was a BMW i8, wafting around down at the Hyatt in the Mediahafen this afternoon. Looked and sounded like it was straight out of I Robot. V cool.

Agreed. Like a lot of shows, some manufacturers have pulled out of Dusseldorf altogether and some now just bring models. Compared to previous years there were fewer big boats as you say. We went about 6-7 yrs ago and there was a whole hall dedicated only to bluewater type trawler yachts. This year, I think I only saw one bluewater mobo and that was the Privateer. In previous years, Grand Banks, Nordhavn, Fleming and Selene have all had boats at the show but not this year. Also missing this year were some of the Dutch yards. I didn't see Linssen, Sturier or Aquanaut to name three. Sign of the times I guess and maybe also a sign that boat builders are finding more targeted ways of reaching their market

Yup and I had one of the scariest taxi rides I've ever had back to the airport on Saturday morning. If I had to guess, I would say that the driver, who appeared to be of lets just say non-European descent, had never seen snow before and the German authorities didn't help by not gritting the roads:eek:
