Duralac, aluminium, and stainless.

So its no good looking to you for a, cheap, replacement for Duralac:)

I've just looked up my Merck Index, its dated 1968, Barium Chloride does not sound very nice but Barium Chromate has a use:as a pigment almost entirely in anticorrosive jointing pastes (zinc chromate is used as a pigment - no mention of anti corrosive pastes).

Barium chloride is a common lab chemical. A solution is used as a test for sulphates. Every school kid will be familiar with it (or barium nitrate, which is sometimes used instead)

Zinc chromate got a bit of a bad name in the paint industry due to its carcinogenicity, but I believe the problems were largely due to bad handling practices in the manufacturing rather than anything to do with its use.

Quote. IMHO Duralac has some chemical way of preventing corrosion not just excluding moisture.

It's just a bit of zinc that stops the corrosion, Zinc sun cream has been used as a temporary replacement.

Good luck and fair winds. :)
