I took out my portable Sangean SSB receiver to check it out. I stored it complete with a set of 4 Duracell Plus AA batteries (not installed in the radio).
I was not impressed at all, the batteries that I purchased from Tesco's in the UK, expiry date March 2014 had leaked. This is not the first time that this has happened, so much to Duracell, living on past reputation and selling JUNK today.
I have a grab bag with an emergency GPS and alkaline battery pack for the handheld radio. Alkalines are supposed to have a long shelf life. There is absolutely no way I'll be buying Duracell ever again.
If I had to abandon to life raft, I would be left without means of communication and without GPS.
There is a thread on a well respected electronics blog demonstrating that premium price batteries are a waste of money, typical kodak batteries from poundland are much better, see http://www.eevblog.com/forum/general-chat/large-scale-battery-test-done-by-me-as-part-of-an-internship/
Bye Bye Duracell we can't rely on you any more.
