Duracell - Russian Roulette ?

I took out my portable Sangean SSB receiver to check it out. I stored it complete with a set of 4 Duracell Plus AA batteries (not installed in the radio).

I was not impressed at all, the batteries that I purchased from Tesco's in the UK, expiry date March 2014 had leaked. This is not the first time that this has happened, so much to Duracell, living on past reputation and selling JUNK today.

I have a grab bag with an emergency GPS and alkaline battery pack for the handheld radio. Alkalines are supposed to have a long shelf life. There is absolutely no way I'll be buying Duracell ever again.

If I had to abandon to life raft, I would be left without means of communication and without GPS.

Pretty much my non technical experience, zinc dont last too long but can be good value for some uses, alkaline last longer and the best value is almost always the cheapest, Note that poundland sell both Kodak zinc and Kodak premium alkaline. Aldi and Lidl have good prices. I only even buy duracell and the like if they are on a very special offer

Ikea are doing a good price on AA alkaline at the moment, but I cant see a use by date on them.

I never buy Duracell unless I have to. Their industrial factory produces a range called ProCell which are the mainstay for all battery powered gadgets and devices we have.
