Is water available?
If I remember correctly you get a not bad meal at the old schoolhouse? Or better still get a taxi round to the Three Chimneys. Fabulous!

Most boats go to the east side of the main islands, but slowly the west sides are getting more facilities, like here & Ulva Ferry on Mull recently. The exception is the west side of Islay, only for the intrepid. There be dragons.
There are no distilleries on the west of Isla, so no point.

Good to see the facilities going in. Need to try it next year.

Or don't - we booked 3 weeks in advance to be told they could only fit us in a 21:00. We got there are 20:45 and our starters arrived at 22:10. We finished our meal at 00:15. Fortunately the taxi driver was very accommodating. And the food - overpriced.

Must admit we stayed for two nights and found everything really brilliant from the food to the accommodation to the staff. In a first class restaurant in the back of beyond I for one am prepared to give leeway to service of food if it is of the best local quality.

A thought :)

With so many pontoons going up on the West Coast, is it becoming dumbed down with regards to responsibility or does it just save having to blow up the dinghy. :)

It's certainly changed some aspects of its character. In the 70s, boats that went north of Ardamurchan Pt had a certain 'status' amongst other cruisers. Now with the 'improvement' to facilities and lets not forget the arrival of Antares Charts, it's not quite so demanding.

But that's what the old timers said when the CCC Sailing directions first appeared with all their insider knowledge for the masses.

You can still choose to use isolated anchorages if that's your thang. There are plenty around. Although I anchor out quite a bit, when the inevitable summer gale, or more, rattles through I know I'd rather be tied to something solid. It's been a great summer this year, but I still saw gusts of 50+ knots a few weeks ago. Fortunately I was tied to a pontoon so could wander off during the day & sleep easily at night.

Does anyone else still attach heather to their pulpit to indicate that they have rounded ardnamurchan?
