Had a lazy day floating down Conwy river in the tender today. I'm forbidden to take the boat out but admiral said nothing abount the tender while I convalescence. So picnic hamper in hand I went 5 odd miles up river , switched off and drifted down to the estuary.
Unfortunately I wasn't as strong as I thought I would be and dropped the OB into the estuary transferring it back onto the boat. Fished it out within a few seconds as I keep it tethered when transferring on a short line to the swim platform

It's a 8hp 2stroke. I removed the plugs. Cranked it over a few times and then drowned it in ACF50 bebore cranking over a few times more. Being a 2 stroke is it liable to survive this, or do I need to get it back for a strip down? Didn't have the strength or will to try putting it back on the tender to see if it'll start.

A pleasant day otherwise

My 15hp mariner 2 stroke and dingy sunk one night and I recovered it the next morning.

Removed plug and carb washed out with fresh water then sprayed with WD40 in cylinder and in induction reed valves turning over the engine several times.

Took carb apart and cleaned with carb cleaner. Reassembled.

Dumped petrol that was in the tank that also wend down with dingy and refilled with fresh petrol.

Connected back together and started engine ran it to an hour or so and used it for rest of visit OK.

Next visit ,a month later, ran a bit lumpy so cleaned carb again and all was then OK

If it is salt[y] water a fresh water wash down is essential followed by lots of WD 40 .

Then get it started asap run it a while so as to dry it out.

They usually start up quite easily although cleaning out the carb and removing the plugs prior to some vigorous pulls is usually required.

Helped out on a few of these and sometimes the CDI unit expires a few months later.

Amazed, but a few ml of fuel direct into the carb and a few pulls and she started and ran fine a week later. This 30 year old 2 stroke just wont die.
