Today I went to look at and purchase some items. Gathered up what I wanted and looked at a hand held VHF for future purchase. Salesman, without me promting, offered a discount if I wanted to purchase the VHF today.

Good enough deal, so I purchased it. Thanks Duncan Yacht Chandlers.

Agreed - they are a great local chandler. Prices (mostly) as good as you will get anywhere. And dont their faces light up when I walk in.....:D

Yes, tend to look at Duncans before the other on-line chandlers. An advantage for me is that they don't charge a premium for delivering to where I live.

Agreed.
I have been dealing with Duncan's since I started boating and find the lads, and lassie, very helpful.
Come to think of it, dont know what I would do if they folded, probably have to travel to Kip or Largs for my bits, which would be a pain.
Kenny, my FB s/s Ball valves in yet?;)

Duncans

Bought my first set of oilies from them when they were in West Nile Street......

And that's a long time ago.

Still a great chandlery today.

Ditto - in 1962!

Now - a h/h VHF would be a good pressy to myself for Christmas. I feel a trip to Scotland Street coming on!

Clyde Chandlers...

I used to work there .... in the Chandlery above the showroom. Who remembers Eddie???

Regards
Donald

Just used them for the first time .... ordered a Bosco boathook last Friday ... delivered this morning - Monday to Port Solent. Probably the best on-line chandler in the country ... certainly cheaper than the rest - I checked! Good for them ... highly recommended.

Duncans is all right, but Largs Chandlers is bloody excellent, as long as you don't find Jane too scary.

my mate calls Largs chandlers the £20 shop. You can't go in without .........

Nothing wrong with them per se, just not as warm as Duncans

Last time I went into Duncan's I came out two hundred quid lighter and a pair of Dubarry boots heavier. The french girl in the clothing section is very persuasive.

(The dinghy I learned to sail in came from Clyde Chandlers on Great Western Road)

Excellent if your boat is in Largs and you don't mind paying their ridiculous prices. They could teach the Light Brigade a thing or two about charging.

Largs marina is eye wateringly pricey, but I have always found the chandlery prices to be very reasonable. A wee bit more than online places, but I'm happy to pay that to keep a local place in business. About the same as Duncan's shop too, as far as I can see.

Now if you want expensive, try the Bosun's Locker at Port Edgar. Perhaps all Edinburgh yacht owners really are made of money ...
