Anybody on the forum own a Dufour 40? If so could they contribute a small review and could I PM them please?
Thanks all

Don't own one but extensively evaluated a new D40 last spring.
Fast and great sailing boat, some minor aspects to be cared for, at least in my case of use and berthing:
forward cabin with central bed: I prefer a side bed;
wooden toe rail requires maintenance and many holes to fix a security net (but now this seems to be the fad);
moorings dont pass through a metal piece before getting fixed on the boat (sorry, forgot the proper english words...!) so ropes are very stressed in an agitated mooring.

I don't know UK regulations, but be advised that there is a "spanish version" which has a boat lenght of 11meters and 99 cm: in many countries and marinas this is the upper limit for fiscal, administrative and harbour charges. The boat is exactly the same, they just cut 7 cm in the bow which is, anyway,covered by the steel plate: there is an ISO Norm stating how boat lenght should be taken and this is what is reported on the papers.

Also do get the saildrive version as some units were outfitted with the regular propeller and axis: i had the VP SD for 16 years without any probs and astern manouvering is a dream.

My berth neighbours have just bought one 2004 40' and are absolutly in love with the boat.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Thank you all for your useful contributions to date. Plenty of food for thought.

Such helpful response is a great example of the forums ability to share knowledge and experiences with others quickly.
