dufour 24 or endeveour 26

I reckon you're best to look at the individual condition of the two boats you're considering. They're both good designs. Dufours are pretty rare where I sail, while there are heaps of Endeavours - but that's probably because the Endeavour was built locally and was good value at the time. They're both fine - but after so many years, it's the condition of each boat that probably counts.

I used to have an Endeavour 24 about 35 years ago, the 26 is just a bigger version. I was not overly impressed with the balanced rudder, while the boat was pleasant enough to sail it never really had a "groove". The 26 may not be the same. The advantage of the Endeavours is the vast numbers built. Keep an eye on Ebay.

No personal experience with the Dufour. They were a quarter tonner and I think the Australian version had more of a coachroof and more accomadation. There were plenty about in the Syney area in the 70's.

I own a Ben Lexcen 26, this is another quarter tonner from the early 70's. I paid $4500 {from a brokerage} for a beamy, large 26 footer with 5 sails, outboard etc. There are some extremely good value boats out there because the mooring fees in the capital cities make owning these old cheap boats prohibitive.

Is that Swanson 27 still on Ebay?

I've just spotted the 'Dufour 24' for sale in Tasmania. It's not a Dufour, it's a Hutton. Like the Dufour, but not a Dufour. Built in Brookvale NSW by the Hutton brothers, who also built a 28. Marginally more modern than the Endeavour, but again, you'd have to look at each boat on its merits - since it's 27 years old.
