Through a remarkable example of serendipity I had Monday and Tuesday of this week booked as annual leave. So two glorious days and nights on the boat - although the early morning temperature was -2.
This morning at 04:00 a duck woke me with it's quacking. It was the only bird, or animal come to that, making any noise at all. It was a single but repeated call and went on and on for at least an hour. It was so cold, (no heating or insulation on my boat), that my semi frozen self concluded it was best to stay in the sleeping bag. I fell asleep again at something after five with the bird still making the noise. Ready for the alarm clock for work at 06:00!
When I got up there were a few ducks and swans in the mist and nothing unusual. But I'm bothered now in case the bird was in distress and I should have got up, caught hypothermia and had a look.
Any experts on duck behaviour here please?
