My wife and I last minute booked yesterday through Latesail at a very good price a Beneteau 323 on a one week Sunsail Ruza Flotilla out of Dubrovnik, we're flying out of Gatwick this Sunday at some ungodly hour but we're going sailing so that's fine.

We've sailed out of Split before but not Dubrovnik, has anyone been either, on that flotilla or, to that area to be able to offer me any tips or advice on what to see, where to go, what not to bump into etc.

You'll be based at the ACI marina, quite a long way from Dubrovnik town. There's a supermarket just at the gate and a filling station across the road from that.
I'd suggest going N - Korcula is very pleasant and a good anchorage just S of the town.

But there is a bus that goes from just outside the marina to and from the centre of the city. We found it tricky to find where the returning bus started from but otherwise easy and cheap. For where we went, see http://www.mjcoon.plus.com/page42.htm

It should be great.

The marina is a bit out of town - but in a nice location and out-door swimming pool (great place to relax if waiting for boat to be prepped, or waiting taxi to airport)
Lots of lovely places to visit - if you can acquire Croatia Cruising Companion before you go get this and have a read. Don't forget the Navionics chart app for your phone as well (Sunsail generally have plotters but we found the Navionics charts better than the Croatian ones)

Our favourite was Okuklje on Mljet, but lots of other options also

Thanks very much for the info chaps. That book seems to be unavailable but I do have a handheld chartplotter with Navionics Gold on it so that should cover us for nav.

We've never been on a Sunsail Flotilla before but there will be loads of information, guides and charts on the boat, there always has been on every one we've done with other companies..

I've got the itinerary now and Day 1 it's ACI Marina, Day 2 Sudrat, Sipana, Day 3 Polace, Mljet, Day 4 Lumbarda, Korcula, Day 5 Free Sailing, Day 6 Orkuklje, Mljet and Day 7 back to ACI so it looks like a nice little sail, any suggestions for the free day?

Day 5 - head up to Korcula old town for a visit - then perhaps anchor overnight just off the old monastery (?) on Badija

Lots of other options as well, so takes your pick

PS. We took one of the Sunsail boats out bare boat and pretty much did a similar route to you - but times to avoid the flotilla. We found our own pilot book, Imray paper chart and Navionics useful.
Great place so should be lovely

We have just spent 3 weeks sailing the area and down to Montenegro.

Korcula is a great town, sail to the other end too. I have not got the logbook to hand but there are lots of lovely anchorages oh wait i have a great restaurant too.

Ok this restaurant was the perfect place to go... Book ahead and ask for the 'honeymoon table ' the one at the end. Joesph will be able to help you

The prawn tempura is amazing (batter) the steak was excellent too. The slow cooked lamb was not wonderful but the lamb rchops were

Last year we had dinner at one of the restaurants on the seaward side along the top of Korcula city wall. A Croatian acoustic trio played standards as the sun went down. My Father-in-Law stayed with us last weekend and he still talks about it as the highlight of the holiday. I can't remember what the food was like but for me it's all about atmosphere rather than food, and the ambience was perfect.

Be warned the tourist boats at Korcula make French fishing boats appear like paragons of Col Regs obedience and politeness. One shot out of its berth straight across our path, which made us force slow down, then swung 150 degrees and slammed back across our bow to get the best view of the wall - forcing us into reverse as the ship sized boat went past above us with the skipper raising two fingers in "might is right" salute
(NB These were the exceptions as all other Croatians were vey friendly)

Thanks again for the useful tips, I've checked out the Villa Ruza on the interweb and it looks lovely, could be a good place for our free sailing day. Korcula definitely sounds like a place to see, even a non yachty friend said how nice it was there. Bloody tourist boats, they're the same the world over, I always give them a wide berth even if they don 't look threatening.

Thomson's check in is at Gatwick North Terminal at 4.50 am, I'm all sorted and off to sleep now ready for 3.30 wake up and 4.00 out of the door, the wife is still fuss bucketing around and has yet to pack her case so she probably won't get around to sleeping at this rate.

I just had a look, Vill Ruza, number one restaurant in Dubrovnik, anchor your yacht, dinghy in. Job done :-) remember honey moon table, at the end with the picture perfect view. Call in advance to get the table :-)

Ston is also worth a visit. It's only about 12 miles from Okuklje, and the town walls are quite spectacular. You can walk up the walls and get a good view over the town and the salt flats. We went to Restaurant Sorgo and had a very good meal which we enjoyed (although I see Tripadvisor reviews are a bit mixed). Entrance is through a fairly narrow canal which is well marked.
