Long time since I was there and me charts a bit old. Yep, I know about the sand banks and the buoys. (If they have not moved them).

Plan is to go south of the Bennet bank buoy, NW of Kish bank buoy ans S of Burford buoy then in the direction of Dun Laoghaire. But can I just blast straight across??

Don't worry most of the chart is still based on the old Victorian leadline surveys.

There's a couple of short TSSes and a precautionary area around the Dublin bay Fairway buoy. One of the TSSes is next to S Burford. In general, as long as you don't worry any of the commercial shipping you should be fine. If you look on the Dublin Port website there's some useful guidelines.

Beware also that the fairway at DL extends a few hundred yards outside the entrance, but in practice that's usually only an issue when the Stena cat is arriving or departing. They do a 180 deg handbrake turn when they arrive so don't get in the way.

Son Vida will be along shortly I reckon to give all the advise you need

PS. What dates you coming over?

Nah, what I was asking was. In practice do folk just zoom over the sand banks. I cant find any where that looks really shallow and there should be quite a bit more than chart datum.

It's a bit complicated, but me auto pilot works off my old rathion, which has no charts round here. So it's pencil and paper, then try to get the curser as near as possible, then look where that is and see if it will do. Then do it all again. I've got the little garmin on the fly, so wont hit anything, thats fine for close in stuff, but it's rubbish at long distance.

I've no problem getting there. Just wondered how many corners folk cut.

Might go tomorrow or Sunday. Dependant on an inspection of Kwackers mending. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Safe trip, i'm on the 'nice' side of the country (ie. the other side than Dublin /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif) but might catch you when i'm over in Wales on weekend of June 20th/21st - Are you based in Holyhead/Conwy?

I know someone who's touched on the Kish Bank but with a yacht not a mobo. I've come in straight from the Kish lighthouse a few times with no issues, again with a deeper keel than yours.

There's officially an area to be avoided over the Burford, but as I said if you don't interfere with commercial shipping they're unlikely to make a fuss about it. If they do, you'll be the first I've heard about.

Sand banks - what forkin sandbanks?

Forget the charts just aim between Howth Head and Killiney head and you're bang on.

The only real restriction is the TSZ in Dublin Bay and them fast ferries from Holyhead.

Ah, you could follow one of those but you need WOT and then some.

Weather OK wind wise for the next couple of days. PM me if you really need some info.

Thanks, that saves the wibbly wobley way round them. So it's forget the sand banks and as long as I dont ram the ferrys, it's ok. Right then.

Think I'm getting old, zoomed around Ireland before they invented chart plotters. I'm now a bit rusty with the pencil.

Anyway thanks, thought I could not see anything to shallow over the sand banks. But me charts dated 1979. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Would love to do a Round Ireland someday, you jammy git.

It's a sad sale when my main excuse is "I don't have the time" - and i'm only a kid /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Enjoy the trip.

PM sent.

pssst - youre not bringing Kwacker with you? Our heating is working and we'd like to leave it like that /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Dont mention heating. Replaced the Eber two years ago with Webasto. It's just cost £500 to mend that, coked up and wiring burned out. Ive got to using the fan heater when electric available, just to save the bloody thing.

I'd rather have a barbeque in the saloon than that thing!!
