DSC Solution (theory)

We have an Icom 601 with a remote handset. No DSC controls on the handset. With all the alarms going off I'm sure I will regret buying the 601 but bought it to match the SSB. I didn't look at the Standard at the time and if I was buying again the Standard would probably win.

I have probably got this all wrong but........ I would have thought the "alarm" noise was from a piezo and not the radio loud speaker - 80db seems a lot of noise from a little speaker. If that is the case can the piezos not be disconnected or some sort of volume control added?. I would open my DSC if I had one but I had the sense to wait until the bugs were sorted out.

Hmm - how long before some electronic engineer fits a suppressor to the speaker triggered by an alarm signal....

'Fraid not - it's from the speaker itself, and also from a connected external speaker if you have one.

That's my plan B, though it would invalidate the type approval.

Another thought is noise-cancellation which basically generates a competing tone in anti-phase with the alarm which attenuates it. Since this wouldn't be connected to the set in any way, this might work though.

Or just switch it off!

...overexposure to sun here!

I'll put some in a bottle and post it to you John. Unfortunately, it will have to be a small bottle cos until the last month or so we have been a bit short on sunshine too.
