Has anyone every seen this at low tide or even better yet, tried drying against it? I appreciate it will be so muddy that getting out to walk about would be pointless but it would allow a stern gland replacement however.

It's in-between Pill and Chapel Pill.

Only seen it at hw-2. I would think the sterngland would be in the mud

Barry old harbour would be less muddy, aug 31 is a big spring tide

A relic of the Pill to Shirehampton ferry?

I don't think so. Too far away. More likely a relic of some water-borne access to Ham Green House.

The best bet would be to use the grid in front of the Portishead Cruising Club clubhouse. If you're a member, no problem. If not, contact the commodore and try crossing his palm with silver. Then come prepared to clear a lot of mud, or alternatively come prepared to stand in a lot of mud.

I believe those steps in the olden days of sail were where sick & diseased crew were offloaded from ships entering Bristol so as not to bring or spread disease into the city!
