Dry stacks, Hamble, Portsmouth, elsewhere?

Re: Dry stacks

Malaprop, Another fine example of the new found hostility on the forums.

How about reading the post after mine by Ballistix explaining exactly what i meant.

Hmmm...happy reading.

You asked about the slip at KB boat yard or more acurately the slip at Camber Quays. The access is easy for the family nearly always empty and easy to get on and off from. KB have great staff and they are very efficient. Complaints - You can't wash your boat down easily after a run out and it gets dusty, the staff can't put covers back on in the summer months but will do in the winter, there is no free parking near by and a days parking is close to a tenner but you are parked right next to your boat. There is a great pub there and as far as boating goes it couldn't be better. 5 minutes in the Solent and you have loads of things to do in Portmouth Harbour.

Lym does have Town Quay part of YH but has always been full when I enquired in last couple years, that said i've seen them advertising recently so maybe a sudden downturn and availability. Prices are near on Lymington Marina Prices...!

That said lovelly location, near town, pubs etc... although If i remember rightly it is ladder down to the pontoon (only a couple of meters, but still with a young'un it' doesn't matter if it's 5m or 15m.

So would probably stick to ones suggested Hamble etc...

Anyone actually know Saxon Wharf? I know it's down the Southampton water, but just wondered what it was like...looks quite small, but that's not bad thing, in particular anyone know anything about the dry stack there? Is it good, plenty of space, and parking!

Booked in there this year. Plenty of parking, frindly accomodating staff, reasonable room on the launch / retrieve pontoon.

They have a reasonable number on pontoons that are available for free use (if you are on the stack) if you want to overnight or just launch to do some work.

When I was down last month they seemed to have quite a bit of spare space.

It all looked more relaxed than Southampton Dry Stack and further from the scrap yard so less dust and dirt blowing about. Slightly cheaper as well.

Reasonable showers etc and a short walk to Shamrock for the caff and swindlery. Garage nearby for fuel as well and they will let you fill from jerry cans on the pontoon which SDS won't.

Thanks for that. Actually going to have a look tomorrow and also the Dry Stack at Universal down the Hamble. I can get a 6 months summer deal there too and that's all I want this year with a new baby etc...so I might opt for that. Anyone know of it and have used it? Going there too tomorrow /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks to everyone for the help and advise as usual. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

i had dealings with Universal, not for dry stack but for pontoon berth and they were very good!

nice people inthe office and very helpful. cant recall what the facilities were like but if i remember, the cafe was pretty good (aside from the rats)

Have used HYS for dry stack at port hamble and they were also first rate. always very helpful but do make sure you speak to them on the day you want your boat in the water, a few times they forgot and when we arrived after hours to go play it was a problem!!

Went to HYS Universal today and the dry stack people were really nice. I liked the place and it seemed a lot less packed than Hamble Point Marina. Going to go there as long as they sort out that I can use the showers with my family! Crazy!

Hi peeps, in my search to find something a bit cheaper than the rip off prices of MDL at HP (inflexible too with a 6 month deal) I was wondering if anyone knew anything of dry stacks around Portsmouth. I've contacted the people at KB boatstack and they are reasonable but the lady mentioned it's a ladder to the boats, and with two kids (one 5 months old by the time we use the boat) I'm a bit worried about access, I've heard there is a slip there...but not sure how easy it is to use?

Anyone have any other ideas? Is there a dry stack at Lymington maybe?

Gah! Help! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

www.dryberthing.com

next to southampton dry stack.

My businesses are based there but I am not connected to the yard itself.

Rather more basic that the other offerings. I quite like it that way and kept my previous boat there, before I had a boat related business.
