Would this be ok to spray for lubricating the mainsail. I've been told bees wax but thought of this spray might be easier.

Which spray is "this" ?

McLube Sail Kote is the specially marketed dry lubricant. It is available from Force4 and other chandlers

Dry ptfe sprays from Toolstation will be far less expensive and are quite effective

Yes, McLube is the stuff in chandleries, but eye-wateringly expensive. Your Toolstation suggestion is good, but if the OP doesn't have a handy store, Halfords sell the WD40 Dry PTFE Spray (and at a lower price than Toolstation!).

When the OP talks of 'lubricating the mainsail' does he mean sail slides in a track? Bolt rope in a track? or the bulk of the fabric?

I find a cheap wax polish is good for cleaning and lubing the track.
If you want to coat the sail itself, e.g. to stop tell-tails sticking, then 'silicon spray' is what we use.
PTFE is good on slides, but it's important to clean the track first, a rag and some wax polish is good for that.

I've used Holt's pro lube with great success but Screwfix own brand is just as good and neither builds up on the sail. (Also good domestically for lubricating curtain rails)
