I've been a lurker on here for a few years and didn't expect this to be my first post.
Does anyone know of a reasonably priced dry dock or semi tidal stand for a houseboat? Somewhere we can work on it ourselves?
Thanks in advance, John

I've seen many boats moor near the London Apprentice, just downstream of Richmond. Owners secure their boats to wall on the higher ground and carry out work when the boat is completely out of the water when the tide is out. Not sure of anything else in that area but others may know better

I'm going back a little here to our Dutch barge days, but there used to be low tide wooden stands which we have used on the Chiswick bank of the Thames adjacent to Strand on the Green. Worth a look from the path at low tide to see what condition they are in. They were always our first choice. People do also use the drying moorings next to the London Apprentice Pub and slipway upstream of Brentford Dock.
Similarly people use the drying mooring at Twickenham on the Twickenham side of Eel Pie Island.
If you want to pay there is MSO Marine Brentford at the entrance to the Grand Union Canal they have a floating dry dock. There are also others on the main stream around Brentford.
You can also hire the EA Drydock at Sunbury on Thames.
A few ideas for you to get you started. I am sure there will be other suggestions as there is a wealth of knowledge on this forum to tap into.:)

Thanks for the swift replies. I had forgotten about MSO, we had our houseboat there for a few weeks about 6 years ago and also at Alan/Gary See near Hammersmith Bridge but despite leaving a few messages I haven't had a reply from the latter.

I guess it is going to depend on how long you are going to be there for ?

If it is a houseboat and needs work , what length of time are you looking at or are you just blacking the bottom ?

Won't really be fair to be on the grid at the LA for weeks and weeks for example , as others will want to use it.

I wondered about that and yes, it would be taking up a space for around 5 weeks so I wouldn't think that would make us very popular.
New roof, extending the upper deck and altering the windows. And any inside work we can get done before she goes back.
I'll try MSO in the morning, thanks for the reminder.

What size is the house boat, dry dock availability will depend on size of vessel. There is a slip at Broomhouse dock that gives you about 6 hours on the hard, It is relatively new and if you got on there on spring tides, you might get the whole vessel on the concrete.
