Dry bilges

I get none in my out drive sealine in the bilges, but a drop in the engine compartment, but only when moored, not under way.
It tasted salty, but I reackoned it was the oil that did that, I am sure its rain water gettin in when I am not lookin.
Is that excuse enough to buy a new un.

Heavy rain over here has revealed a bad leak in the aft on my cabin, (F36) got to investigate twhen rain stops, or will blow me AC controller which is mounted on aft wall adjacent the door. Phil your profile doesnt reveal your Sealine model is that on purpose?

Weve got a lot in common it seems, Sealine, Bikes, Guitars.

Would not expect any of you lot who have outdrives to have any water in bilge. If you had you would have major problems and knackered outdrive. Not hered of anyone yet with shafts thats dry.

Hi, I have had dry bilges on Princess 385 for the last 18 months. The reason for this is that i have fitted the latest sure seal that Princess fit to thier new boats.Done away with the stern packing, didnt like having water in my bilges.

During our long search for a P35 earlier this year, every one we viewed had either a lot of water, or a small lake in the bilges, and every owner/broker said the same "its because Princess route the hot water pressure overflow into the engine room bilge".
So not only do you get a small amount from the shafts but also from the hot water system if you have been "giving it large". Why didnt princess route the overflow overboard or back into the cold tank ?. I have now changed the relief valve and re routed the overflow into a small container to see how much I get before I route it into the cold tank. I dont know if stern drive P35's have the same set up, because I didnt look at any.

Not currently a member of owners club!
I have had no major problems with any of my Bayliners and have always found them a handsome boat I too like the 28 and 30. However I am very pleased with my 2655 I consider the 1999 to be a better boat than the recent models as they have no walk round deck. I would also say that Bayliner do not deserve the press
they sometimes get.

Yes I knew about the drain from the hot water system. Interested to know how much water you finds comes out of it. I would think that the hot water tank is to low to drain over the side or back into fresh tank.

Hi Hayden,
I dont think it will have to drain, because any water comming past the valve will be under some pressure, and as the relief valve on the hot water tank is quite high up I would guess the head will only be about 12", but i take your point, I will try the temp holding container higher up to see what happens.
By the way, spotted you in falmouth Jul/ Aug, but didnt know it was you then, we were still looking for a P35 at the time.
cheers steve

I love the boat and the engines are superb, I dont know why Princess made so few with them in. The cummins units were always my first choice, but after a few months of looking around, I thought it was going to be a volvo set up, and then this one came up, very good condition, well speced, and cummins engines, I thought I had died and gone to heaven.

Well mine drains outside, with a little SS cover thingy, just to make it look better I suppose.

Yes, as Haydn says, drainThe locker out through the hull, Mine has a hole with a Stainless steel cover over it to stop water going back in.

I am going to plug the hole that drains into the Bilge, in the hope that it all drains out through the hull.

You can pick up these SS covers at most Swindleries.

Cheers..

My last boat had 2 drain holes through the hull, But the new one just has one,
I'd be inclined to make just the one, and make sure its as low as possible in the locker.
