Nice sunday morning, quietly reading the paper and three tennants drinking tramps staggering along pontoon. (no disrespect to tennants inferred)

None of them had a forum flag with them so I felt it was okay to call security as they were staggering unsteadily and liable to fall in and ooogling some nice kit left lying about.

Makes me think how lax the whole marina and boating security environment is.

Anyone do anything special re Boat security.

I am currently thinking about this.

We provide CCTV cameras which have an embedded microprocessor, so rather than having to employ someone to sit and look at a monitor the camera does nothing until it sees "unusual" behaviour; for example someone stepping on to your swim platform rather than just walking along the pontoon. It then starts recording and will notify you via e mail, SMS or similar and transmit live video over the internet or potentially via picture messaging.

It would also allow me to check and see exactly how long that engine service actually took!

Up to now these solutions have been employed at High security sites, but I have been wondering if there is demand in the boating industry. Not trying to break any rules on the forum by selling but any feedback from members will be very useful.

Feel free to post or PM me.

Thanks in advance

But surely you would always have a 'winch handle' on your boat which is retained specifically for winching. A baseball bat might be considered an 'offensive weapon'.

A baseball bat isn't an offensive weapon as long as you have to ball to go with it. Erm, so I'm told

Erm .. think you'll find it was Forbsie, HOO & Byron. I beleive they're researching alternative patches for Big Issue sites.

Nokia do a security camera for a little over £200 that emails details with a picture, or MMS to a mobile phone with picture. Also has temperature threshold. The system is very simple and has built in motion detection that can be all controlled from your mobile anywhere in the world.

Well thats ok then, suppose wearing a baseball cap while you belted, er sorry, suggested they leave, would help, but am still sticking to my winch handle!

Hey!! /forums/images/icons/mad.gif

Boatone, BarryH and SeasprayIII can all vouch for me that I was in Kingston on Sunday morning and if PhilF was also there, we all had our burgees showing and no one offered us a drink apart from the owner of a gorgeous slipper launch who tried to palm me 2 quid for helping him fender off his pride and joy. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif
