Drowning or not??

Many many thanks for posting.

When I was young I very nearly drowned in a public swimming pool surrounded by people having a good time and taking no notice as I slipped out of my depth and was breathing in water looking up at other peoples feet. Their splashing made it all the more difficult for any potential rescuer to see anything was wrong too, even the life guards hadnt seen me. Luckily in my case the rescuer was my dad who was nearby and realised I was in trouble and fished me out. Learning to swim became a real priority for me and I made sure both my kids swam from an early age.

I have searched the forum but could not find this

It is a very important read for all boaties

I'm going to guess, without having read it ...

It's that sanctimonious little piece, written in the style of the One Minute Manager, in which "a captain" purportedly ploughs past a happy, smiling couple to rescue their daughter who is quietly drowning just ten feet away, isn't it?

(pauses to follow link)

Yup. Thought so.

Does your post have a point?

Yes. It should be possible to write an interesting piece on the causes and symptoms of drowning without making up examples - does anyone actually believe that the "a captain" incident happened? - and without sounding like an airport bookstall book on management.

Seconded absolutely.

I was taught lifesaving drills but never this.

I have passed it on to all the lifeguards on our beaches.

You never know...

One day it could be your own child.

And while we are at it, why are some people so deliberately nasty on these boards ?
