Hi all

First year on the Thames for me. Just got registration for my little 9ft grp boat which I'll use for fishing when season starts back up. I've been reading up on the EA Site on general boating etiquette but I'm still a little confused as to what will be right or wrong for where I anchor for periods for fishing.
I've stood at the free slipway at cookham (by the bridge) and watched boats going up and downstream observing which side of the river they use etc.
So what if I want to fish around a particular feature on the 'wrong' side of the river? I assume I can't just go drop anchor anywhere and expect boats to go around me?!

Any advice appreciated! Thanks :)

Good thinking batman. If I can get it painted this week I might take it for its first cruise and see what it's like, haven't been out in it yet

also remember when anchored, while fishing regardless of what side of the river you are, a rower or rowers will head straight at you , if you decide to shout to warn some will say thank you, some will ignore you and start chuntering, some way past you. some will tell you that you are in the wrong place, and some will shout obscenities at you, the swearing ones are usually the rowers who have no way of looking over there left or right shoulder to see the way, and assume the whole river is maintained purely so they can row up and down it. basic rules of navigation are to look where you are going, regardless of skippering a lilo or a cruise ship, bear this in mind single scullers.

If you install a sophisticated webcam/3g then I believe Byron is considering offering a remote night watch service :D
Poor old Byron and his sleep apnoea. Awake all hours wondering why one of his motion detecting web cams keeps going off and there's nothing there.
To get back on thread. I recall seeing two chaps anchored fishing 6 or 7 feet off my frontage and when I conversationally asked "you had any luck" got verbal abuse including a vitriolic lecture on their rights to anchor.

The last time she got abuse from fishermen, my Mum placed her sprinkler so they got a good soaking - this was right below Shepperton back weir after asking after their well being!

:) little handfuls of grit?

Simple but effective I imagine: I will remember that if I ever see the $rseholes who left all their mess at Sonning again :)

Simon was this recently?? out of season since 14th march so worth a call to the EA and report out of season fishing if so and get a few mates to do the same....highlight a hotspot so to speak and maybe they will send a baliff out ....that would end up hitting em in the pocket ...safer policy than tangling with peeps who may well turn on you...understand where you are coming from though hate litterbugs Steve
