Drop Seat Trousers

Just received my Jan Sailing Today. There is an ad for Gill Womens Dropseat Salopettes----photo taken by Lakesailor. Why just for women?? When it's too rough to pee over the side it's probably too rough to aim at the heads. Blokes would find these oilies just as useful surely?

What kind of salopettes have you got? My hifit ones require the shoulder straps to be released first, which means undoing the jacket.

Musto.... unzip right down to the crutch, and then I stand up rather than sit down!

Yes, so do mine, but its sufficiently capacious that it can be moved safely out of the way....

I'm with you on this Dylan. My gear was a mistake in this respect taking so long to gain access that I often try to hold on (usually not a good idea).

I have a tendancy to be seasick so I have to be careful how long I spend below in the sort of weather that would require wearing them in the first place. So, anyone want to buy my old ones? ... slightly soiled /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Try uncoiling the first couple of feet or so, and you will find that you can control the direction of flow quite well................ /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

One of the better solutions, perhaps, is that espoused by Auld Jimmy Wharram. He is an enthusiast for sailing in warm airs and waters, and wearing no clothes. He prefers to sail with an all-girl crew.... and somehow, he manages it.

Another answer is a zipped and sealed pee-tube. Musto built them into their drysuits, and the facility is a God-send...

In my opinion, if the weather is bad enough for oilies trousers, then peeing over the side should be a no-no for safety's sake; likewise standing up in the heads for the sake of the poor person next to use them; therefore dropseat trousers ought to be made compulsory.

But then I'm a woman so what do I know!

With a heads compartment the size of our boats, standing up for a pee is totally out of the question!

Even when we charter bigger boats, all male crew are told to "sit down" - it ensures greater accuracy.
