Can anyone tell me if it is possible at Calshot to either anchor and dinghy ashore to the slipway or if there is a jetty / pontoon you can drop off a crew memeber on. I would like to drop a crew member off to the activity centre there.

There is an excellent jetty next to the slip on the north east corner

So there is:

Looks like it dries around a metre (less than two, anyway) so rise of tide permitting you should be ok.

Since the site is owned by Hampshire County Council it would be worth ringing them and asking first.

You could. Although you may well end up talking to someone who has no idea about the jetty, doesn't want to commit themselves, and says "no" just to be on the safe side. Sad fact of modern organisational life. If it's just for a quick drop off, I might be tempted to just do it, and ask forgiveness (in the unlikely event anyone cared) later.

EDIT: Checked their site, and it says:

Landing/picking up persons from jetty, (minimum depth 3m), or pontoon (tidal) - £1 per adult, 50p per child (under 18)

So there you go. Just pitch up and find someone to give your quid to.

Is that one the RNLI one? Looking at google earth there is another just in the cove by a slipway backing onto the carpark.

Yes - although I doubt they use it any more since they no longer have an all-weather boat, just a RIB and a D-Class which I assume are both kept in the boathouse.

I don't think it was ever exclusively their jetty though - some of the other blurb I found suggests that it was/is shared with the Activity Centre.

The one you've pointed at, I assume is the "pontoon (tidal)" mentioned in the pricelist I quoted. It gets quite shallow inside the "hook" of the spit, so the main jetty would definitely be better for a yacht.

Ahh ok, makes sense. Looks like there could be a few buoys around the jetty too although i am only looking at looking at Google Earth so may not be there now.

Thanks all for your contributions, I'll try the pontoon and see what happens! Planning to be there around 2 hours before HW so should be usable with 1.2m draft. If not possible will despatch dingy to slipway while I anchor or hang around.

Yes the pontoon is best around that time. As you come round the spit follow the shore slightly rather than cutting straight across.

The photo here at LW gives you an idea of the deeper channel location:

From the Calshot website:

Quay/Jetty/Pontoon use

Lying alongside drying quay wall or scrubbing on beach or slip including use of toilets/showers/skip - £7.90 inclusive of VAT per 24 hours or part thereof – advance booking essential.
Landing/picking up persons from jetty, (minimum depth 3m), or pontoon (tidal) - £1 per adult, 50p per child (under 18), Annual launching or Boat store members. Commercial users, special rates, please enquire.
No charge for anchoring, ABP (Harbour Authority) may levy a fee.
