I'd like to 'belt and pulley' the prop shaft in order to drive it by a standby engine in the event of main engine failure.
Does anyone know if turning the hydraulic 1:1 gearbox, without the engine turning, would produce a problem.

If you were a sailboat, the shaft would turn anyway. My book says to spin up the engine every 8 hours to re-distribute the oil (Nicor/TMP box). I guess if you had a long-term emergency session, you could cause damage. I'm interested to see how you deal with the lateral force exerted on the shaft by the belt.
