Having finally got to the stage where my AD31s keep most of their fluids to themselves, an annoyance is the fine black dust created by drive belt abrasion as this means I still have to keep cleaning around the engines and get messy everytime I go near them. I suspect that my pulleys should be cleaned / polished. What is recommended for this?

Belts most likely too slack and probably only need tightening up a bit....put new belts on while you're at it as the existing ones are definitely worn if there's dust about.

What worked for me was to remove the belts, then use strips of wet&dry to get the worst of the rust off, then to paint them with green paint at the end of the season. (the paint works thru the winter, then use the boat regularly during the next season !).

If the belts have been shredded by the rust, best to get some new ones once the pulleys have been cleaned.

Or do what I did. Go find the nearest newsagent, go to the section that has all the spotty oik clearaseal squad boy racer mags and get a number for a supplier of ali pullies. But the crank pulley one didn't fit and I still haven't got it machined to do so. They will look rather nice when they do go on tho!

Had the same problem on mine. Managed to remove the rust and then coated pulleys with a 2 part epoxy resin. Seemed to cure the dust problem then.
