Dripping KAD43 raw water pump

On my boat in Spain at the moment and while doing an oil change noticed dripping from the rear of my raw water pump ( about one drip every 10 seconds engine not running)
I'm happy doing most mechanical jobs. What's the cause and solution in this case.

knackered shaft seal. Can get a replacement set of seals from a bearing distributor, but ensure that the seals have stainless springs.
Easier to do if you remove the pump first.

Volvo sell the service kit. You should prob do both engines at same time. Mine both went within a few hrs of each other last year which is understandable given same engine hours for both.

Thanks for the very rapid reply. Does anyone have the service kit part number. My Spanish is'nt up to much for ordering the right part from our VP shop down the road.
I take it one just takes the whole pump off and it's obvious after that.
Any advice most welcome

The pump comes off fairly easily if you undo the bolts and prise away the hoses.
Don't let the lower hose drop too far ... water comes in!

There are two seals, 827247 x2.
I also replaced the rubber drive bit behind it 858467.

Check the shaft isn't scored when you take it apart.

Full repair kit is 877373, which includes bearings, o-rings, shaft etc. (almost everything apart from the pump body) but also costs more .. depends on condition of those bits as to whether you need it.

I tried doing some searches with our pathetic wi-fi here and got nowhere, so I'm really grateful. Tomorrow I will stock check the numbers above with VP then do a strip down and depending what I find is to how much I spend.
I did find a Keypart price for an original complete unit and it was £500 plus......ouch!
I have the workshop manual and it mentions a specialist drift tool. I hope I can do without.

You won't need any specialist tools if you are only replacing the seals. Unlikely you'll need to do the bearing.

When it is apart, check for grooving on the shaft in the area of the seals, often, but not always, shaft and seal can fail in a similar time frame. (Shaft wear can be down to installation, suspended solids in the water etc - unfortunatly - no hard and fast rule)

If the shaft is showing signs of wear (usually a groove) fitting a new seal will work short term, but, make sure a new shaft goes on the maintenance list (together with a new seal!).

Hi all
Job done. Took me 2 hrs mainly because the hoses were well stuck onto the tail ends. Shaft and bearings in perfect condition and the water had only gone through the first seal, so just a 8 euro each seal change.
As others have said no special tools required and most of the work done on my lap.
Thank to all for your invaluable help. This forum is amazing especially when you're stuck and a long way from help at home.

PS The full service kit is 172 euros so thankful that it was only the seals
