I have a kill cord on my little 6hp Tohatsu, but I leave it permantly in place and never tie it onto me. I supose its just a bad habit based on my false logic that it will never happen to me.

A few years ago I pulled a drunk guy out of the river when his rib hit the pier of a bridge at planing speed: luckily his passengers fell down inside the punctured rib, and it floated to the bank. Very nearly a tragedy.
