Hi,

I need to drill some 8mm holes through a bulkhead, very very close to my deckhead. My quite small cordless drill doesn't allow me to get high enough up for the holes I need to drill. Is there some adaptor or something I can use to solve this.

Holes need to be circa 20mm to 25mm from the deckhead maximum. And they need to be parallel to the deckhead, so I can't drill up at an angle to solve this.

A lateral-thinking alternative would be a hand drill, if you have an old one knocking about. I think mine would get within an inch of the deckhead as required.

I dont know about lateral thinking. Probably what I would do anyway although I think I have a right angle drive somwhere.

Some smaller hand drills may not take an 8mm drill bit but my Stanley one will.

Always works away from power supplies and never has a flat battery!

Indeed - I would only ever use my Makita cordless (or one of my selection of mains drills) for planned jobs, but the boat's toolkit for unplanned repairs contains a hand drill for exactly this reason.

Maybe I can sort you out.I have a flexible drive that I don't need.It's this one exactly.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BLACK-DEC...Home_Garden_PowerTools_SM&hash=item35c35baf6c.
You're welcome to it for the postage. How large are the holes you need to drill?Edit 8mm,It only goes up to 6,5mm.You can have it if it helps anyway.

Maybe you can rent one.

After trying various adaptors as listed earlier which are basically useless I bought a similar 18v Ryobi and it is one of my most used tools along with the fein, worth the money.

along with the fein, worth the money.

Did a google, watched the "Fein MultiMaster" YouTube video. It said, and I quote, "SAVE UP TO 80% LESS TIME WHEN RENOVATING TEAK DECKS" :D

I assume that was a mistake :) Tool looks good! Could be a very handy thing to have. Are they all much of a muchness or is the Fein one "the dogs"? I usually prefer Makita - not used Fein.

(NB. Not buying one of these now but will add one to my birthday wishlist I think)
