Not yet for a boat related thing, but I do think it would be useful later. I need to re-lay a load of railway sleepers down the driveway, where I will need to drill a pilot hole and then screw in some quite large and long screws. The angle is awkward and the space restricted so I am looking for a tool to adapt a decent power drill. Recommendations please?

Thanks Nigel. If I can't get one that has some kind of "extension cable" from the drill, I will give that a go.

I have an angle drill like this & would not be without it:

I have found adapters to be a poor compromise.

Should have added that I also have one of these and it works OK if you are really unable to use an angle drill:

I had similar which a paid a lot more for from my local supplier and it was absolute rubbish imho. It consisted of the two shaft mounted in the plastic case, no bearings.

Good for a few small holes not much more.

I bought one a bit like that, only with a keyless chuck for £5 from Lidl.
It did the job I needed to do.
It is a bit awkward, but a proper angle drill is not cheap.
I considered an angle adaptor for the dremel, not exactly right for railway sleepers unless we are talking 00 gauge.
A mate of mine has a really nice air angle drill which gets in to small places, but we still had to cut some drills to funny lengths the other day.

Sometimes the only thing that will access the work is a ratchet tap wrench.
Every job is different!
Either collect tools for their own sake or buy whatever gets the job done?

I agree with you and am no stranger to Lidl/Aldi tools for non critical stuff but I paid a lot more than £5 for mine from a generally good engineering supplier and it should have come with a warning. I was not expecting much of it but its construction was rubbish, a metal shaft turning on a poor quality plastic. I am sure there are better versions around but £5 for a one off or limited job application is acceptable I agree.
