I have a large hanked foresail made of very light material. According to the label it's a Drifter? Anybody know what it is and can I remove the hanks and use it like a jenaker?.

That is the definition of drifter. Like a hanked cruising chute. If you Google on 'drifter sail' there is more information.

It's a reaching sail for very light conditions. I had one and found it very useful - it doesn't require any special gear to hoist or control it.
I wouldn't think it would adapt to being flown loose because of the cut, but I've never tried it.

Crusader make what they call an MPG (multi purpose genoa).
I have one and they are very light and set flying, inded they have a wire luff and can be rolled.
There's no reason why you cant set your drifter flying altho it will make raising and lowering more difficult, unless you use a sock.

Depending how its cut you may be able to use it going to windward in light airs if its hanked on. i would experiment with it before removing the hanks.
