Dried out phantom and princess

Wow that's just up the road from where i live, literally about 5 minutes away by car. The poor fella looked like he was in absolute agony, hope he's ok now.

There's a lot to be said for a boat with bilge keels :)

There's also a lot to be said for following the chart - Trent port / Marton Mill is well known and you have to cut the bend by lining up the posts at each end.

I've trimmed the willow trees around the post at one end a few times to keep it visible to boaters, as several boats have chipped props and damaged legs on the hard marle seen in the vid.

I had heard about this incident but didn't realise it was on tv, very interesting. They seem not to have mentioned he was underneath the boat cleaning the hull and when his SWMBO walked to one side to ask him if he wanted a cuppa that's when it tipped over:o Or at least that's what I heard

Dont know if they did this by accident or intentionaly

Marton bend is notorious for accidental groundings, its one bend where you cant go around the outside as you would normally do, an accidental grounding for sure ; although not too far away sand barges do deliberately ground , (while waiting for the flood tide), they wouldnt ground on the bend, they would make sure they run aground well before the bend to save getting stuck there.

horrible... what a frightening situation to be in...!

Do hope the poor fella is OK now.

that makes it even worse, really feel for them both as she must have felt awful..

Q Tim, What next Skip.................

Mask, snorkel , hose pipe, footpump, long rope and an anchor, gulp

The incident took place mid July 2010. I went up the Trent the day after and moored in front of the boat involved, which had been towed above Cromwell Lock (by BW I was told). It was moored with bow and stern ropes only and few, badly positioned, fenders. I went onboard and repositioned the fenders as I couldn't bear to see the hull banging against the concrete wall!

Why would anybody who took time to move the boat leave it so badly moored?

I was told the story by other boaters and the lock keeper. Although only the day after, thay said "the boat is going up for sale"!

Glad to see the owner recovering.

This incident I know of first hand as the guy with the phantom 43 who rescued the owner of the Princess 385 if a friend of mine.

The owner of the 385 ran aground on marton bend, so he thought while im high and dry i will wire brush my anodes, as he did this his wife moved around in the boat upsetting its balance, the boat fell on him crushing him in the mud, my friend then ran aground trying to get near him to resue him, but clambered in the mud and saved his life, I saw both boats shortly after, the props were wrecked on the phantom, the 385 owner I think is still recovering from his injuries, the boat is still for sale at Newark.

Ive not seen the video yet will download the flash player.
