Drettmann - Elegance

Just returned from Mallorca and leant that the Drettmann Group of Germany have gone into receivership.

The Portals office has closed and all staff laid off by the receivers.

As they were the largest exhibitors at the German shows there must now be a big hole in the exhibitors floor space.

Blimey - I'm surprised at that as I thought they had a good product and looked at their Bandido in SoF late last year.

issue was pricing as they only worked in €uro even though the build costs were $$$$.

So I could see them staying around just because of that!

Maybe the ForEx as the €uro weakens has killed them off?

I'm surprised and not surprised. They had a massive stand at Dusseldorf and gave every impression of being immune to the downturn but on the other hand, I've visited their brokerage offices in the Med and seen the silly (as in ridiculously high) prices they were asking for used boats, both Elegances and other marques. Just a guess but it could be that they had been giving stupidly high trade in prices for used boats just to keep their new boat sales turning over and it eventually caught up with them
As it happens, I like the look of their Elegance boats. They appear to be very chunkily built, much better than the likes of Trader, and they do have a loyal following in the Med. I guess Drettman 2010 GmbH will be formed soon if it hasn't been already and the show will go on with the banks, trade creditors and a few customers picking up the bill for the failure of the old company

I guess we feel the same - the boats I have viewed were top notch from an engineering view I thought but some of the interiors were lets say "their taste is in their mouth!"

I believe that Elegance offers a greater degree of customisation than most other production boat builders so the potential for vomit inducing interior decoration is higher, especially since most of their customers are Germans, who are not generally known for their taste or style

Accident waiting to happen ! could see that one coming a mile away, but no doubt will be up and running again shortly , perky as ever.
