Dreadful

I have inspected my moorings and they are dreadful. The floods have eroded great holes all along the bank and whilst still usable extreme care should be taken when coming on or off boats. If your Club has already booked a rally date this year or intends to do so, please warn whom-so-ever that more than ever Clubs are mooring here at their own risk.

I am making arrangements for some remedial work to be done which involves hiring in a Digger and a Dumper. Luckily I have loads of corrugated sheets available but have a shortage of wood for bracing I also have an ample supply of backfill.

Hopefully the work can be done before the end of May when the first rally is the 60th birthday celebration of the Oxford Ditch.

As you can imagine I am not a happy bunny. The repairs will be costing me a nice few quid and it's not as if I get a return on the money.

Oh the joys of being a Riparian Owner.

Sorry to hear this Byron although I guess it is one of the hazards of owning waterside property.

As someone who has benefited from your hospitality several times over the years, both privately and as a member of clubs that you have permitted to hold rallies (including a YBW Thames Forum rally a few years ago), I can only say thank you for your generosity and also how grateful I am, personally, that you are trying to get things sorted in time for the ODCC 60th celebration weekend.

is there any way you can reduce the flow at the upstream end by putting e.g. safety netting between two posts across the flow ? The purpose being to induce a local slow eddy to deposit material and build up the bank, possibly with some judicously placed live willow mesh to capture the silt ?

That's all too complex for a simple Bubble like me. I will leave all decisions to Dil I will stay out of the way and just fork over my dinner money as and when needed. What grieves me is we had loads of wood but the Eileen gave it all to a local Farmer who mentioned to her that he needed some.
