In order to carry out essential maintenance works on the lock, weirs and sluices and to carry out a riverbed inspection, it will be necessary to lift the weirs at Richmond for a period of five weeks. This will allow the river between Richmond Lock and Teddington Lock to drain down at low water on each tide.
The Draw-Off period will commence at approximately 2000 on Saturday 8th November 2008 and will complete at approximately 0640 on Sunday 7th December 2008.
Your kidding Howard and I aka Tedd lock used to make a fortune from collecting all the old fishing gear hooked up on the rocks in the weir stream, used to get up early and everything...
I read it on a topic regarding the draw-off posted by 'Boatone' fairly recently, currently on page 3 of the forum.
Quote from the PLA:
"... any interference with the foreshore such as dredging, excavating or disturbing the river bed requires a licence from the Port of London Authority. Recent environmental legislation provides for very high levels of fines when licensing requirements are not strictly adhered to."
I guess what they are really worried about is people bringing small diggers in to recover valuable fittings from wrecks and things, leaving big holes and bits of boat lying about.
There are several large lumps of stainless which will nicely fit a Princess 33 lying on the bottom of the river up near Kew......if anybody finds them............
Props?,... not me .....in my case one of the aits (Kew?)did wilfully leap out in front of me a couple of years ago and I came away from the brief encounter with a few bits of the bow missing and some very fetching willow tree branches decorating the front of the boat.Managed to quietly dump most of the offending tree before locking in,which then revealed some very mangled pulpit railing.
Gaffer tape stopped the rain from getting in via the holes in the glassfibre but the damaged pulpit remained accusingly in front of me for the entire holiday. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I am equally skilled at both car and boat driving...........
Boat is being sorted to make good six years worth of "lock rash" and assorted collisions as we speak and my car was resprayed last week. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
