Dramatic Walton news ??

All this should make for a interesting "pirates" w/e , especially those boats catching the ebb up the wallet ..

Maybe they should install a waiting pontoon at Pye End !!
Now that I have "retarded" from the MRCC I was thinking of investing my hard earned pension in a floating cafe - very seasonal of course.:)

Hi Clive

That's kind of my point though - leaving the Deben when day sailing normally means (give or take) leaving on a rising and a falling tide alternate weeks. The way it was water depth at the Backwaters end didn't matter, and now sadly it looks as though it does. It's a new restriction that isn't very welcome. Stone point is one of the very best local places for going ashore in a dinghy, (convenient when you sail with a large German Shepherd dog), and of course it's no distance from where you anchor to the shore.

As I understand there's less water at the Deben Bar this year too, it seems we are going to be quite a bit more limited in our local sailing than we have been recently. I'm quite happy to plan Blackwater and Southwold trips around tidal flows but I'm a bit disappointed that I won't be able to set off for a lunch at anchor in the Backwaters HW+/-4hrs any longer.

That said, there's not a whole lot I can do about it.

I wonder if we need to review the location given the problems being highlighted at Stone Point this year?

An alternative might be the Rocks in the Deben... but not sure what the score would be with a fire given that it's private land.... any others?

I will find out from George at Ramsholt who to check out the Fire possibility at The Rocks

I was talking to the harbour master at Titchmarsh on Sunday and he said that they are due to "plough" the channel at Stone Point within the next couple of weeks and then dredge it in the near future.

Have you thought about The Stone on the East side of Mersea Island. Lots of boats can anchor near the entrance to Pyefleet and plenty of room for a party and BBQ above the gravel in sea grass. I've attended a BBQ there before with around 20 people attending. It's not the Walton Backwaters but a lovely location.
I won't be around unfortunately.
