Drama at Tedders on Wednesday night

Narrow Boat on the weir at bell Weir

You are right! The boat in question was caught out by the current when trying to return to his mooring. Friends on the shore could'nt hold his line against the current the line was pulled into the water. He then drifted broadside on towards the weir. The owner proceeded to the front of the boat to the achor locker. The anchor was despatched before he realised that it wasn't attached to anything! Here's a pic of the boat being towed off by the EA barge that was called out from Sunbury.

Good old Falconbrook :)

Shes a nice old bus.

Chucking anchors out that aren't attached is a favourite of narrowboatists. As is throwing ropes to lock staff with things attached , i had a line thrown to me with a dog attached once , gave the dog a shock as i pulled on the rope.

Suspect it will go the way of most wrecks , as shown below with the last wreck at Tedders ... there isn't a lot of it left to be honest. It disintegrated shortly after the picture in the paper was taken.

Have been visiting No.1 son in Vienna and the Donnau (Danube) is in good flow. No private boats out and on our passenger boat doing the Wachau Valley took 1 hr longer on return for a 25Kl. return trip. The marker buoys in the center of the channel are doing 12 Knots!!
Get it wrong for a second in a flow and there is not much one can do to recover it no mattter how experienced you are. Was very sorry to read the sad demise of a proud boat.

Ah, I had many adventures there, including going out to the "measured mile" and being hidden in engine rooms......
Great people to work for as well.

All gone.
