Sadly its not just what the router can handle, the backhaul has to be considered too. If the backhaul is ADSL (and it usually is) then adding an extra 50 users concurrently is likely to cause problems.
Another consideration is the attitude of the backhaul supplier, many (most) specifically forbid the sharing of a connection. Those that don't quite reasonably charge a premium rate.
The problems can be overcome by using alternative backhaul (wireless, leased line etc) but the costs are prohibitive.
We run the wifi on the river dart and I deliberately constrain the number of concurrent users to way under 50 to ensure the service remains useable.
We also provide wireless broadband, with a wireless backhaul, to our home village. I have so far not needed to constrain the service but I pay a LOT more for the backhaul.
