Hello Sun Coast, i work for the company that manufactures Dr Barnacle, It's a brand new product for this season, it does not contain Lanolin which everybody seems to be having a complaint about and we are more than happy with the trials that we have conducted so far.
The product was initially developed when our CEO complained about his propeller having Barnacles and tasked our Chief Chemist to develop a product capable of giving a barnacle free season.
Before applying Dr Barnacle he explained that it was hard to achieve more than 4.5 knots at a max of 1500 rpm, afterwards he managed 7.5 knots and more than 2000 rpm at full revs improving the efficiency of the power unit whilst keeping the dreaded barnacles at bay.
“It seems that our low key test marketing of Dr Barnacle is creating quite a stir! R S Clare & Co Ltd is a specialist lubricant manufacturer in Liverpool UK with a history going back to 1748. We make greases for several Major Oil Companies and speciality products for London Underground, Network Rail, Corus and many global companies.
A few years ago our Chairman had problems with barnacles growing on the propeller of his boat which was moored in a marina near Gothenburg, Sweden. Inside a month from launching, the engine performance was massively affected by barnacle growth which resulted in poor fuel efficiency, limited rpm and 20% lower speed. So he asked the R&D Team back at Clare to develop a coating which would stop barnacles attaching themselves to the phosphor bronze prop, stainless steal rudder and steel propshaft housing, without affecting marine life.
A coating before the yacht is launched in the Spring lasts all season, and one less problem has to be faced each time he goes there for a sailing weekend.
After the experience of the London Boat Show in January, we reassessed the size of the 100gm pot, the point of sale kit and the packaging nearly doubling the quantity in each pot. One pot is now enough for a single prop on most boats, and after taking in VAT and postage the single pack costs £29.50 delivered to the UK mainland. It is also available in packs of 20 x 175gm pots to chandlers at a substantial discount.
More information is (will soon be) available on the Dr Barnacle Website (www.drbarnacle.com) but by all means contact me if you need to know more”.
