DPG Drive not always engaging

Have an ongoing issue with one of our drive legs which sometimes doesn't want to engage forwards - if I push the stick forwards the revs rise a bit and sometimes that makes it engage with a big clunk which is not ideal.

In the middle of last season it also did the same with reverse & my engineer at the time said there was not enough adjustment on the cables so the boat had to be lifted so he could make an adjustment on the leg.

This only cured the probelm for a few weeks so I called in Volvo who stripped refitted & adjusted the cables - it was fine for a month until the end of the season when the boat came out but the problem has come back again at the start of this season - this time only with forwards !

Fed up paying engineers for adjusting things, I tried adjusting the cable/rod at the actuator end and just a slight adjustment appeared to cure it for a wee while - but then the problem came back after she had been sitting getting refuelled after an hours run across to the marina.

I wondered about heat build up in the engine bay - but after 10 attempts she eventually selected forwards and was fine for the rest of the weekend !

Can anyone perhaps enlighten me - its driving me nuts (pardon the pun) !

Thanks
Alan

gear shift problems

I have just had a problem with one of the gear shift actuators on my D6 engines installed in my Fairline Targa 40. This needed replacing at some significant cost bearing in mind the apparent simplicity of the affected part. the labour element was very little; the part price horrendous. The problem was intermittant. The cable/ outdrive were all serviced last Spring. Presumably the actuator on the other engine could now fail as well!

With apologies to the OP for the drift - I've also had this prob on my D6's in my T40. The selector assembly jammed in the top of the leg, which caused the electric actuator to burn itself out. Had to have the boat lifted to replace the selector assembly; the actuator was the expensive part. I replaced the selector assembly in the other leg at the same time as a precaution.

Cheers

An early DPH-A model problem.
