Hi does any one have knowledge on Volvo Penta DP-SM outdrive trim sender units? I have just changed the bellows on the out drive. When i fitted the sender back in to the side of the gimble ring i made sure it was set at 11ohms when the leg was at its lowest. When i tested the sender out of the gimble ring it went throught a cycle from 11 ohms throught to 16ohms then infinity and then a dead short. The trim gauge is a Faria, the needle is stuck in the up position wether the ignition is on or off. The needle does move but only about 3mm down when the outdrive is lowered and then goes back up 3mm when the outdrive is raised. Can i test the trim gauge which i believe is only a ohmeter!!

If you connect the terminal on the instrument which goes to the sender to an earth you should get full deflection on the clock either up or down.
I doubt very much that you have a problem there though, its most likely the sender is installed 180 degrees out, the best way is to trim full down then loosen the sender and adjust it until the clock reads full down also, tighten it up and trim up and down a few times to check it reads correctly.

Yes I alwas do it by basic rules, if the legs down make it read down, then lift the leg and it should go up!!
