It's time to replace the bellows on my DP-G. Previous to this I have done the bellows on the 290 and didn't remove the out-drive (split it instead). With the DP-G I have to remove the out-drives.

I am considering purchasing a cradle/out-drive lift for convenience as others in my yard will use it in future (generous sort, I am)

Question:
Volvo Genuine bellows only, yes? I remember someone (VP?) talking about issues with jubilee clips in the past? Shed any light?

Do I need to order any other parts? I thought I remember something about plastic bushes before?

Are the bellows the same for the DP290? I have a (genuine) one here, it would mean only having to purchase one. I have no issue purchasing 2, just no point if there's no need.

Many thanks :)

I always replace the plastic hinge pin bushes as they have a tendency to break up when you remove the pin. The aluminium around the bush corrodes and squeezes the bush against the stainless pin and when you remove the pin it shatters.
I use a rotary sanding wheel in a drill to clean out the hole in the transom shield so the new bush slides snugly in, otherwise you will just destroy the new bushing when you refit the pin with some waterproof grease. And use new sealing washers on the drain and fill plugs, and while the drive is off check the trim hoses where they emerge on the righthand side as they often leak internally and the rubber sheathing expands. If you have the later type with smooth outer sheathing then you should be ok, same applies to the trim hoses that emerge at the top. I also carefully clean the prop shafts with a small screwdriver where they exit the seals as there is always scale there which can impinge on the outer lips of the seal.
Just a few tips from the workshop, if there is water in the oil its not the end of the world its easy to replace the seals if you have a bit of spanner experience and I can post the procedure if needed.

I did this last year on both my dpg drives.regards leg support bought an £80 motor bike lifter and modified.I could remove the leg on my own with some securing straps.you might want to change the water pick up hose at same time.

Actually one small part besides the plastic bushes (2 x 872096 part #) buy also the small split (saxpinne) for the gear cable (17276 part #).

Thank you all for the info.

spannerman - good tip re. sanding holes to fit new bushes, will certainly remember that. Thanks also for the info re. seals - I actually had to do the propshaft seals last year on one of the out-drives. It was interesting as I hadn't done it before. Thankfully it all worked out - 2 oil changes and spotlessly clean every time!!

About Time - Thanks for confirming the part no's of the plastic bushes. I have loads of little split pins around so no hassle replacing those (and the ones for the trim rams)

Now I just either need to do like oGaryo and make up a slide hammer jobbie to pull out the retaining pins... OR can I bang them in (with a suitably sized socket) easily and just turn the steering helmet?

If you order 876507 it seems to consists of 2 bushings (a kit) and if you order 872096 you need to order 2 pcs. Otherwise same. Volvo just changed the part number.

-EDIT- Meant to post this in my other thread, sorry! But if anyone can advise below, please do :)

What a day!

Built a trolley for the out-drive - all OK

Removing the bearing taps were a nightmare (that's what Keypart calls them). I took VP's advise and used 2 x 1/4 UNC. This worked for only 1 hole on each bearing tap (I have 2 outdrives) - how odd! I put it down to possibly bad maintenance in the past. Anyway, tapped in a new thread and put an M8 in. One was VERY hard to get out, the other popped out straight away! 2 added to the shopping cart!

My reason for posting... Should I order 2 x bushings too? As seen here: http://www.keypart.com/stock/853048

Should they be totally smooth? They are smooth (ie. not gritty), but there is a slight 'ridge' going around the inner edge of the bushing (on each of them) when I rub my finger in there. Not sure if this is normal??
