Our trim ream seals are starting to fail. Does anyone have any recent tips for replacing the seals, in particular which kit to purchase (some kits seem to be seals only, other kits have and caps)? Or is this really a false economy and it's better to fit new rams (either aftermarket or genuine VP parts)?

We changed the seals on our DP-E 5 years ago no problems since, I had them done while we were on the hard for winter, so no extra lift outs but from memory they cost £250 fitted, I guess a few quid more by now.

, eh , 70 quid a set and a day diy
Thanks, I'd seen that video. What could possibly go wrong!

As I'm in the UK and the boat is in Spain, I won't be doing the work, just supplying the parts.

I think I'll buy four end cap kits plus three seal kits (each contains the seals for two rams). Should have all bases covered.

Easy job if old caps can be removed.
Hard job if they can’t. An hour or 2 labor at the most for a average tech.

How old is the boat. Our is 2012 and end caps were pretty difficult to get off but managed it in the end. I know some older boats suffer and it’s difficult to remove the end caps making the ram change an expensive job.

Thanks, it's 2002! I think it's definitely worth trying a seal change as I believe the whole rams are even harder to remove.

Yes some need an internal pin driven out to get the ram off, enjoy

End cap tool v helpful, can weld a longer leaver on

Jam the end cap tool onto the end cap by dropping the outdrive on the tool, needs a couple of suitable bits of scrap wood
