DP-E gear box oil

Oil comes out of the drain screw at the bottom, undo and remove dipstick first.
Oil goes in the largeish hole behind the hex screw above the gear shifter.
Also change the O-rings on the drain screw, check for water in oil.
Twiddle props a few times, raise and lower outdrive, leave for a bit, then check oil level with dipstick.

The leg is in two parts, lower unit with props, and upper unit with the cone clutch / gear selector.
The oil circulates around the whole thing, upper and lower unit.

Oil goes in the hole behind the hex screw, and fills up the entire unit, which is drained from the screw at the bottom.

Its accepted workshop practice to always fill drives and outboard motor gearboxes from the bottom so you push the air out and you know the leg is full of oil. If you fill it from the top then make sure you get enough in, your leg should take approx 2.7 liters of oil.
We once had a customer who installed a new saildrive himself and filled it from the top, seeing the oil was correct on the dipstick took it on a test. Shortly later the top gearbox made horrible noises and failed. The reason was that the oil sat on top of the air in the lower part of the drive and as he drove the oil and air swapped places leaving the most expensive part with gears and clutches without oil. Volvo wouldn’t give him any warranty as it was the customers fault.
