And I was interested that nobody really joined my 'rant' about Avis (and most of the others). This morning I realised that of course the vast majority of any car here customer base are foreigners who use car hire firms all over the world. - because nationals tend to have their own car.
Had I been a foreigner, with perhaps a limited knowledge of English, I am suspect the 'upgrade' cos the car is too small, bring the car back with an empty tank and for money up front we will fill it for you, hire a GPS for outrageous hire fee, pay and insurance premium out of all proportion for accident insurance because NCW is not actually a realistic waiver, would have resulted in my paying more than double the 'hire car fee I agreed when pre-booking!
Of course foreigners everywhere, including Brits abroad, are being exploited by car hire companies because they can and because the 'customer' lives in another country there will be no repercussions.
